How to Stick to Your Fitness Goals

Setting yourself fitness goals is the first step to success. Having goals isn’t the only step you need to take to fulfill your dreams and ambitions though. Motivation is key to WINNING and you need plenty of it alongside some raw determination to achieve your fitness goals.

Keeping motivated throughout is something many people struggle with and is one of the main reasons people fall off the wagon.

So how can you tackle this?

Luckily we have a series of tips and tricks to keep you feeling great and pushing forward!

Are you ready to smash those goals? Lets get that motivation soaring higher than ever!

Listen to uplifting music to improve your mood!

Have you seen all those serious gym-goers lifting heavy weights in the gym but never without their headphones? There’s a reason for that…

Did you know that it’s actually been proven that music can alter your mood?

It’s true. Music can have a powerful affect on your mind. If you are feeling a little blue or uninspired to go for that run, grab your headphones and put on some uplifting music to really lift your mood! It works. Don’t enhance your state of weariness by choosing sad music, go for something you love, something upbeat that will put you in a good place!

You’ll soon be powering through that workout!

Have a cheat day

Go on, be naughty occasionally. This is one of the best things you can do to not only kick-start your metabolism but to keep you motivated and looking forward to something. If you are following a structured eating and exercise plan then having a cheat day at the end of a hard week is one of the most enjoyable things you can experience. You have earned it and boy will it taste good!

A cheat day is a wonderful reward for your body and your mind!

Plan a big reward because you’ve earned it!

Whether you are working towards a marathon, a goal weight loss or aiming to lower your blood pressure you deserve a big reward.

After you have achieved your goal you need to make sure you have something planned to reward yourself with. This could be something like a spa day, a mini break, a weekend away or a night out! Anything as long as you can look forward to it and enjoy every second!

When you have those days where you aren’t feeling great about things and your motivation is low then you can remember the reward waiting for you at the end.

Visualization: the good and the bad

Visualization is also a key component when it comes to staying motivated to achieve your goals. Visualization is probably the single most important thing – but why? What we visualize we manifest, it’s the law of attraction. If you picture yourself succeeding and what you will look and feel like as if you have achieved your goal already then you will be on the right path to achieve it. Spend more time visualizing the success and achievement of reaching your goal and only a short time thinking about what it would be like if you didn’t achieve it – not nice, huh? You are what you manifest so fill your mind with positivity and a winning attitude.

Change your attitude to food and fitness

Attitude is everything. If you are feeling sorry for yourself and you wish you were eating that fat-filled, high-carb meal out with all your friends this is the wrong way to think. You will be telling your brain your missing out and punishing yourself.

Instead know that every meal, and every exercise session that you are doing is all counting for something – the end result you have been visualizing. Every mouthful and every step, jog or swim you do is all pushing you that little bit further towards your goal.

Make yourself a FIT diary

Having a FIT diary is a great way to really stay motivated and plan your fitness goals. To do this all you need is a simple blank notebook, diary or a specific gym diary. In it, start by writing your goals on the first few pages. Use the other pages to plan out your workouts and food – anything to organize your life and thoughts in regards to your fitness goals. Doing this will keep you motivated, as you will be accountable and you can update it every day if you need to. It’s also great to see your journey being mapped out in front of you and gives you a sense of control.

Hopefully, after reading the above you now feel as though you will be able to stay motivated to achieve your fitness goals. Of course, everyone has bumps along the road but the main thing is to keep your head in the game. Remember you are only human and we all have down days. Use all the above techniques to stay on top of your game and keep pushing through.
